I've been watching Jupiter and Venus slowly part. It's weird to notice the sky change so much each night. How did I never notice that before?

I came home from work and put my bike in the shed. No sooner had I opened the door, a huge black bumblebee flew inside. Probably a queen that just woke up from hibernation. I tried to chase it out, but it was resolute in its efforts to land in a pile of old cobnut shells on the floor and crawl under the freezer. I found a...

The "G"OP is at war with humanity

The triumph of the Texas Taliban: grinding women's faces into their medical conditions.

:
Halfway through my pregnancy, I learned that my baby was ill. Profoundly so. My doctor gave us the news kindly, but still, my husband and I weren’t prepared. Just a few minutes earlier, we’d been smiling giddily at fellow expectant parents as we waited for the doctor to see us. In a sonography room smelling faintly of lemongrass, I’d just had gel rubbed on my stomach, just seen blots on the

This is, in my opinion, a rather startling assertion.

Well, I looked it up, and I'm none the wiser. Can anyone else shine a light on this?

Trip to Southampton

This weekend I went back to Southampton for a few days where all my university friends were meeting up. It was a good time. We went bowling, I met friend-Tom's girlfriend, learned that friend-Jonathon was engaged to his. Interesting stuff. I won the second round of bowling, and every game of air hockey. I'm something of a demon at air hockey, if I do say so myself.

On the first night, after dinner, it was announced (to my alarm) that we'd be going to a night club. I probably don't...

Marcus and the Bucket

Posted 09-20-2011 at 02:15 PM by Bullet Magnet
Updated 09-20-2011 at 02:41 PM by Bullet Magnet
I spent today scraping up moss and dirt from between bricks at my wonderful job. I did this on my own initiative since there wasn't much going on and no one gave me any specific work to do.

When my green bendy bucket was full I hefted it to the big bins to discard the contents. The weight shifted surprisingly, dragging my arm down and bashing it into the lip of the bin, deadening it. As the contents emptied suddenly, the bucket sprang up of its own volition, rotating about the handle...

Wedding 2. Also poem.

Last Saturday my mum got married. Nice guy, like him no issue there. Though attending the wedding of your own parent doesn't stop being weird, and nor does seeing their name changed.

This is the new family.

The three lads there, me, my brother Ben and new bother Ollie were ushers. In this capacity we apparently let everyone sit wherever...

Day Trip to London. Thoughts, hijinks.

All August my friend Robert and I have been planning a trip to Hastings before the summer is out. But the title says London! I hear you cry. Patience, I'll get there.

We went to London instead. Originally we had hoped to go to the beach with a group of friends, inspired by a prior conversation about a past birthday party of mine. When everyone turned out to be working on the days we were free, the list was whittled down to two. So we settled on Hastings and planned, to among other...

Bill Nye on Foxtrot November

Posted 08-23-2011 at 10:43 AM by Bullet Magnet
Bill Nye is invited onto Fox News to discuss the recently discovered evidence of prehistoric volcanic activity on the moon, when anchor Jon Scott bafflingly asks whether this casts doubt on anthropocentric climate change. Just look at Bill's face. You can see the moment his brain shifts gear back to grade-school teacher mode.

With Bill O'Reilly's...
