I actually kinda respect Fathers' Day, as it was created by a woman. She wanted to acknowledge everything that fathers did in supporting a family back in the days when the man of the house worked ridiculous hours and never actually had a chance to spend quality time with his kids.

Mothers' Day, on the other hand, is a feminist equal-rights farce.

I doubt the creator intended it to be transformed into in orgy of consumerism to be hijacked by the greeting card industry. Though I suppose the same could be said about Christmas.

The same could be said about every creation conceivable which has just an ounce of commercial potential.
