Apple needs to fuck off and die.

Posted 01-26-2016 at 02:00 PM by Crashpunk
I'm sure most of you already know and feel the way I do. But just give me some space to rant... I need THIS.

I'm done. I'm literally done with anything Apple related. And I wasn't a fan of them to begin with.

I'm absolutely sick of their shit overpriced, overrated and down right out dated hardware and software.

iTunes is the most backwards, inconvenient way to have a music collection. It has a horrible UI which has gotten worst every update and the client is a buggy outdated piece of shit. It's the most frustrating piece of software I've ever used.

iPhones and iPods have gotten worst ever generation. They have literally not improved on anything in YEARS software wise. Just been given a shiny coat of paint and new apps. The core OS is still SHIT.

All I'm trying to do is set up my iCloud so I can share my music with my parents because for SOME REASON dragging across the albums doesn't work on anyone else's phone or ipod but mine. (I've looked into it. No reason why it shouldn't work, the PC trusts it and everything).

Well duh, it's Apple... Just silently move away from the herd of Apple zombies. I hear they get restless if they sense a hater in their midst.

Ugh man. My mate used to be a Apple fanboy. It was like Apple controlled what he said and refused to argue.

That soon changed when his Mac broke, iPhone broke and built a PC. He now hates them just as much as me. haha.

I like my iPhone, and don't plan to make a change to Android. There's enough that I don't understand how to do on an iPhone that I'm not making a jump to an Android device that is more customizable because, frankly, I don't want to customize, and delve into this shit. It does what I want it to do.

Edit: I will readily admit that my iTunes can act very weird, and I've gotten used to having to hit play, have it say that it's playing, but not actually be playing, hit play again, and then hit the track back to the beginning because, even though it started the song from the beginning, it thinks it is part of the way through it, and starts the next song in the middle of it if I don't do that.

I had an iPod when I was younger. I remember instead of having a file system which I could drag on drop music on to (like any other music player ever) you needed to install iTunes which would then "sync" your music to the iPod in some secret proprietary way that only iTunes could do. More recently I've been tasked with making an iOS app. Apparently this can only be done on a Mac, which is just fucking brilliant. So now I need to spend a thousand bucks or so just because Apple are a bunch of cunts.

I've never really really liked Apple. Their business seems to be based around taking control away from the user, disregarding standardisation, and locking users into their overpriced ecosystem.

The iMac and the MacBook are perfect pieces of hardware for professionals. I have both, and if anyone is looking to do anything business-related, I couldn't recommend the system more. In four years I've never had a virus, never had a program fail, never had the system freeze, plus, Pages comes for free now, and it does everything that Microsoft Word does on a practical level, at no cost. It's a great tax write-off too.

That being said, for leisurely purposes, I wouldn't touch Apple. I don't play games that much, and I've never been into PC gaming, save for a brief stint in World of Warcraft, but I've never so much as loaded up Minecraft on my Macs. It's a sure-fire way to kill the machines.

I do laugh when I see folks purchasing a MacBook solely for Facebook and gaming purposes.

I like Apple. I like my iPhone and I'm never buying an Android phone again because Android is amazingly bad. Not to mention it looks horrible too and as a UI geek that's unacceptable.

I also want to buy a MacBook because some of the software I need for design is OSX-exclusive and also OSX looks better than Windows.

I still like Microsoft more, but they're doing some really weird stuff like putting all their best apps on iOS instead on Windows 10 and focusing on platforms other than their own. Otherwise I'd be all over their products.

The other major player in the industry is Google and fuck Google. They're evil.

And about the customizability argument some Android fans tend to pull, in my opinion if an OS allows too much customization it only means the designers weren't confident in the quality of their work.

I just installed Debian on my 6 year old Macbook. Currently booting into terminal mode to make myself more familiar with the Linux command line, but I'm also running LXDE when needed. The LDXE desktop has some good customization, and mine is looking pretty nice and minimal.

I don't know if I can recommend it, but I'm not an Apple fan and Windows 10 doesn't excite me. 99% sure whatever OS I run on my next PC (probably Windows) I'll be dual-booting Linux too.

Also I like Android >:(

One day I hope I'll design the UI of a Linux distro so I can finally stop hating using Linux. But until then I'll stick to Windows.

Linux is a usability nightmare, that was my point.

Well it's a pretty fucking steep learning curve, but the odds are that someone has solved any problem you have and documented it on the internet before. You just have to be prepared to brick a few installs if you get adventurous - Virtual Machines are good.

I feel like you can use Linux these days without playing with anything too hardcore though, unless you really want to. I just want to learn it more fluently because I'm going into the world of CompSci now. I've even been learning Vim!

You use an MP3 player in 2016?

Totally! But next time I'll buy some with more storage than 8gb.

That's only like 50 albums. The rotation is pretty high

To be honest I was looking into going back to basics and just getting an MP3 player.

Out of curiosity, do you have this option enabled?

You can’t drag and drop music onto your phone if this option isn’t enabled.

Yes. I eventually figured that out and it did work.

I'm still having problems with iTunes in general though. And my iPod keeps crashing without a reason.

How old is your iPod? If it’s fairly old then that’s gonna happen. If it’s new, check your warranty. Frequent crashes means it’s probably defective and you can get it replaced.

As for iTunes… I like it more than most, but I use it exclusively as a hub for music I bought through iTunes and some podcasts, and it’s pretty painless to sync that to other devices without even using iTunes. The UI makes sense to me, but then I’m not doing much heavy lifting with it anyway. I’ve also heard the OS X version is way better than the Windows version.

Ubuntu works better out of the box than Windows does for me, and I reckon it looks better as well. Also Windows has no package manager.

Linux generally works better out of the box, but keeps up with Windows later.

OSX is not really better than Linux, quite the opposite.

Linux generally doesn't work out of the box unless you have just the right hardware for it and also you have to do some kind of dark satanic ritual while dancing naked to make it work properly.

I mean, it's the only (mainstream) OS where you have to use the command line on a daily basis.

Not really, Ubuntu is more comatible than any Windows version.

And it's easier (and faster) to install apps from Ubuntu repo via command line than installing apps on Windows, once you got a hang of it. And you don't really have to. You can be a noob and use Ubuntu Software Center.

One time I walked into a local apple store. I was waiting for someone, so I thought it would be funny to be a total asshole to the employees. I began to sneak around the store and open safari tabs that were either a picture of Gabe Newell, or the Microsoft website. After about 10-20 minutes of doing this, an employee walked up to me. He was about 2 meters tall and looks extremely intimidating. The guy looks at me with this annoyed face. My brother was with me when this happened.

He (my brother) hadn't noticed the employee, until the he cleared his throat, and said the word, "gentlemen," in a firm tone. The employee began closing the tabs on all the computers. So, I assumed this was our cue to fuck off, otherwise security would have gotten involved. So, we left.

TL;DR: I got my brother and I kicked out of the apple store.

I really like iTunes, some 3rd-party scripts help to fill in the gaps.

iPods, I could take or leave. I have one, but just because I know it'll work; all the other brands bust pretty fast.

iPhones are meh. Macs can die in a fire.
