Pidgin

Posted 01-29-2008 at 02:42 PM by Alf Shall Rise
Oh boohoo, I have to use Pidgin now. If anyone doesn't know what it is, it's a program that runs several different chat systems such as AIM and MSN. But, of course, excluding the fact that it's much more organized and doesn't lag as much, there has to be some form of a logical explanation of why I would waste my time downloading this program.

Funny story actually, I was on MSN and one of my friend's friends IMed me. He asked if he could post a picture of him and me onto his facebook...I had no idea what he was talking about, he barely knew him. I didn't even know him in real life, so my first thought was rather strange. And then MSN wouldn't log in, some error or something. Found out after days that my clock on my computer wasn't right, apparently it said the month was April. :/

So FINALLY I fixed the problem and signed onto MSN. This idiot IMed me again, asking the same question. So I insisted on seeing the pic, and accepted the file he sent me. Me being gullible and unaware of the most recent bugs and viruses, I tried to open this picture. But it was a program, didn't exactly realize...somehow. This bug made me do the same thing, and so it really started to annoy people on my list.

And then my brother showed me Pidgin. I downloaded it, and now the bug is gone. Just felt like sharing this with everyone, specifically some members on this forum that talk to me on MSN. I can't exchange files anymore, and can't play sounds. I can see all of the custom smilies and ordinary smilies, but that's pretty much it.

Hmm, while typing this I had a P.S. sort of thing in my mind, something off topic but important, but not too important to post another blog for. Sadly I forgot what it is.

Anyway, salutations!

I use Pidgin as it comes with Ubuntu and none of the other IM clients I've tried in linux are any good. I'm not a huge fan of Pidgin but it does the job, other than the fact that it won't post auto-replies in MSN.

Hmm...Maybe you should report the guy with the MSN report thingy buttons? Plus Spybot Search and Destroy is free stuff that can kill viruses, maybe you should reinstall MSN...? Don't get the advertisements with it, it contains the CiD virus.
