Fucking DirectX

I'll just copypaste what I posted on another forum.

Recently I bought Gmod, and when I tried to open it it said that I needed the latest version of DirectX to play, and provided a link. I thought I already had DirectX but apparently not. I downloaded the file but when I tried to install I got the error message "Failed to install, please refer to error log" or something like that. I have literally tried everything and nothig is working.
I even edited some registry files by the instructions of a YouTube video, and nothing worked.
I've even tried installing older versions and I always get the message.
I've also bought the new Amnesia game and I get the same response when I try to open it.

I never ask for help on forums usually so you can probably tell by this point that I'm pretty desperate.

I'm running Win7 Ultimate with a 32 bit OS, 3 gig of RAM and a 2.10 GHz AMD processor if this helps. Thanks in advance.

So yeah, I think that pretty much sums up my issue.

	Do you have Visual C++ Redistributables (2005 and 2008 and 2010) installed? .Net Framework 3.5 or newer? What GPU do you have?

	That message isn't very useful without the source. Try the Windows support board or something. Have you tried redownloading the installer?

If he's running Gmod, then it's through Steam Alex.

Steam seems to like to force you to install libraries without any good reason. It installs already installed libraries over themselves, and has even told me I need to install different (older) versions of C++ redistributables. Basically, either Steam does a shit job of keeping track of versions with this kind of thing or certain games blindly request specific libraries.

Also, the more I look at that log the more I think your install of DX is broken. Uninstall it and start again before you try anything else too extreme.

	I can't uninstall it, it must already be uninstalled. Nate, there's no DirectX update available in Windows Updater but there's a bunch of others there, including updates to the NET framework. I'll see if any of these make a difference.

	You can't uninstall DirectX. DirectX is never meant to be uninstalled.
