Oh, Dear

Posted 01-23-2010 at 02:24 PM by OddjobAbe
My youngest nephew's going through another of his funny phases. He came across an episode of that daft Watership Down cartoon that we'd originally taped for my eldest nephew in the late '90s (and had later shown my youngest nephew), and has decided that he loves it like he used to. He watches it over and over, and he's driving me crackers with it. I used to be indifferent, but I'm beginning to dislike the programme more and more. I'm seriously contemplating buying him the set so that we don't have to suffer the same one constantly. At least a bit of variation might at least help us to try and enjoy it for him (and it'll be great for my brother's wife - she loves it as much as he does).
I'm just glad that it doesn't have that fucking Art Garfunkel song on. I got so incredibly sick of hearing that even when I was little - Mam had it on LP, and my brother used to play it constantly, and it drives me mental still.

On a more cheerful note, I bought some noise-cancelling headphones after my best friend sat on my old pair. They're brilliant. Very clear. If I switch them on immediately, I don't notice that much of a difference, but when I switch them off half way through listening, I realise how much unwanted sound they do get rid of. They're very comfortable as well.

This is a brilliant song. I love the Rollo Interior Area.

i felt indifferent to Watership Down when i first saw it as a nipper, and it didn't 'mentally scar' me as some people claim. those types of people are usually the ones that say Bambi had the same effect on them. WUSSES

i'd never even heard of noise-cancelling headphones 'till now. at first i thought you meant superior ear-defenders.

Precisely my feelings on the matter. Neither film was at all disturbing. They weren't exactly wrapped in cotton and bubble wrap, but they were not at all an animated equivelant to Nightmare on Elm Street.

And I'm beginning to love my new headphones more and more. They are incredibly clear.

It certainly frightened me as a kid, what with the horrible imagery of the rabbits suffocating and the other horrible shit, but I still feel nostalgia whenever I watched it.

Bambi is about as scary as a piece of wet tape.

That depends on what the tape is wet with.

WD did scare me when I watched it as a nipper. The 'tunnels clogged with dead bodies' thing got to me. Bambi though, that was laughable.

don't get me wrong, i loved the film, i just didn't find it very disturbing. everyone's different, though. i may find things horrible that others find laughable.

I tell you something, I wish it was the proper film that my nephew was into. Despite the presence of Rik Mayall, I'm going around the fucking bend with this series. I've just ordered him the set and the original film. My brother's going halves with me on it. With some luck, after he's seen them all, he might move on. I hope that he goes through a Frank Zappa stage. That would be great.
